On July 27, VSPE spoke to the committee formed by the Board for Asbestos, Lead, and Home Inspectors that was formed to work on the regulatory amendments necessary to transition the home inspector program from certification to licensure. We advised the committee and later advised the APELSCIDLA Board that we are proposing language that will reverse what we considered to be an unintended consequence of Senate Bill 453 (2016).
The effect of the adopted language now requires Licensed Professional Engineers (PE’s) to obtain dual licensure to do home inspections, whereby PE’s were exempt from being ‘certified’ in order to perform these duties prior to the amendment.
We are taking a “grassroots” approach by finding Legislative representatives to carry forward our proposed amendment. We will be asking our members in the next couple of months to contact their legislators to support the proposed amendment.
